Teacher Needs in Developing Digital Literacy Skill for 21st Century English Teaching
Facing 21st century students who are digital natives, it is very important
for English teachers to be digitally literate to support digital teaching which in the
21st century has become part of their daily activities. This aims of this research are
to find out what digital literacy must be master and what is needed to develop
digital literacy for 21st century English teachers. The method of this research is
qualitative research methods. Researchers used critical literature review and also
interviews. The techniques of analyzing data were reduction the data, data
analysis, presenting the data, and drawing conclusion. The participants in this
research were English teachers in Sabilul Huda Junior high school and Cendekia
vocational high schools. The results of this research are explained in two stages:
First, digital literacy skills that must be mastered by English teacher in general,
there are information skills consisting of access, integrate, evaluate, and use of
digital devices which include skills to manage, create, communicate, analysis and
digital transformation which includes synthesis skills. Second, English teachers in
junior high and vocational high schools have something in common regarding
their need to develop their digital literacy skills which includes need to require
self-retraining in reading and writing information through digital devices.
Meanwhile, they also need digital equipment, training, and discussion forums
