A Need Analysis of Teachers‟ Competencies of English Teachers in the 21st Century at Senior High School
The presence of the Covid- 19 epidemic might definitely be a source of
contention in various areas, notably education. This study focuses on the skills
and the need of teachers‘ competencies for English teachers in 21st Century, the
low quality of educators is one of the big education problems in Indonesia. In
order to encourage teachers to increase their strategic position in developing skills
and awareness to enhance the standard of education. This study aims at
investigating the teachers‘ competencies as well as her perspectives toward
competencies and implementing information communication technology, and
increasing skills into teaching and learning. It is formulated in order to answer two
research questions: what are the teachers‘ competencies of English teachers in the
21st Century, what are the need of teachers‘ competencies for English teachers in
the 21st Century. This research is descriptive qualitative research using critical
literature review and interview to collecting data. The respondents of this research
are English teachers of X and XI Grade in senior high school. The result shows
there are 5 competencies that requirement by the teacher. There are Pedagogical
Competence, Personality Competence, Social Competence, and Professional
Competence, Technology Literacy. The recommendation is that the English
teachers is trying to mastering media or technology for their professional and
competencies to create more effective teaching and learning activities
