A Needs Analysis of English Teacher Candidates of Junior High School in 21st Century
eachers are an essential component of education in determining the
success of education in achieving its goals. Teachers have a substantial role in the
world of education because teachers have significant duties and responsibilities in
the teaching and learning process in the classroom. Therefore, it is essential for
teachers' candidates to have good skills to become a teacher, especially for
English teachers in the 21st century. This study aims to determine the
qualifications of English teachers and the needs of English teachers candidates in
21st century at one of the junior high schools in Cirebon. The method used in this
research is qualitative with a case study research design. This study involved two
English teachers. Data was collected through interviews and documentation. Then
the data was analyzed through three stages, namely reduction, data presentation,
conclusion drawing and verification. The findings of this study the English
teachers at this junior high school can fulfill all the charachteristics teacher in 21st
century, including the teacher as adaptor, teacher as visionaries, teacher as
collaborator, teacher as risk taker, teacher as learner, teacher as communicator,
teacher as model and teacher as leader. Then, for English teachers' candidate
needs in the 21st century is more emphasized on mastery in the field of ICT,
besides the ability of teachers to communicate, collaborate, be a model, be a good
leader and learner in the learning process is also very much needed.
